SUMMARY:IS-ASCE SEI May Luncheon: When a Simple Span Bridge Wasn't so Simple
DESCRIPTION:Horner & Shifrin was hired to design a simple span bridge for Highway 163 bridge over the Bonne Femme Creek southeast of Columbia. The existing bridge was a single span bridge with closed abutments and no skew. The new bridge is a single-span prestressed bridge with a 25-degree skew. When demolishing the west abutment\, a portal to the Devil’s Icebox cave system was discovered nearly directly under one of the piles.
